Ghost Hunt

I recently started reading the Ghost Hunt manga, and I am surprised how much I like it. Most of the people in my school who read any type of manga at all are the lowest of the low, people that are so goddam annoying I can't even listen to them talk without wanting to slap someone. However, I have learned that stereotyping is wrong. Manga can be for cooler people too.

Reading this has also re-awakened the huge psychic fan in me, but that's not as important. I have so fallen in love with this manga, I'm even reading and writing fanfiction now. Seriously, that's how great it is. You should read it. I mean, it's about a preppy, cheery orphan girl who is in love with her boss, the narcissictic emo brainiac, and work with an odd assortment of crazy mediums to solve ghostly mysteries. How awesome is that???

Incidently, does anyone know if the Evil Spirit novels are published in English? I mean, there's always the option of ordering the Japanese version and learning another language/alphabet from my friend who's learning it from a semi-qualified middle school teacher while I'm also learning French, but I'd rather not go that route. Even I am not so incredibly talented I can become fluent in three languages at one time. Darn.

Sweeney Todd

Has anyone else realized how incredibly talented Johny Depp is?

All right, I admit I've only seen four of his movies, but let's just look at the variety of roles he's played in those four: a nervous wannabe CSI (Sleepy Hollow), a smooth-talking pirate (of the Caribbean), a possibly psycho chocolate maker (Willy Wonka) and a dark-ass, misunderstood serial killer barber (Sweeney Todd). Oh, and let's not forget that he has starred in the last one without any musical training at all.

The man's got skill.

Though I admit that the blood in Sweeney was comically fake, I loved the movie. The singing was phenomenal. I know people have said that Helena Bonham Carter's voice was sometimes questionable, but she's playing an unstable baker who makes cannibals out of her customers--does it really make sense to make her perfect? And as for Depp -- just wow.

One of my favorite lines was the last in the song 'Epiphany'. Let us remember that the song is about how everyone deserves to die, and how his life sucks. The last line: "I'm alive again/And I'm full of joy!" Yeah, okay.

The movie was perfect in every way, with just enough weird comedy to add to the script. After all, "Who doesn't love a good musical comedy horror slasher thriller, right?"
